European Day of Justice 2019
The European Day of Justice is celebrated each year around the 25 October. It aims to bring justice closer to citizens, to inform them on their rights and to promote the work of the Council of Europe and the European Commission in the field of justice, through simulation of procedures and information sessions. This day is open to all European citizens, students and people who work in the field of justice.
Christos Giakoumopoulos, Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law at the Council of Europe, explains that justice exists primarily for the benefit of citizens, and not for legal professionals. He says it is essential for the effective functioning of democracy that people understand how they can access the justice system to protect and enforce their legal rights.
