Rejected Roma
Roma people living in camps in Europe
Even in 2016, Roma people are living in camps around Europe in terrible conditions.
They often do not have access to schools, medical care, social security and other basic aspects of modern life enjoyed by the rest of the European population. What we see is a tragedy – a minority population, outcast, rejected and discriminated against.
These Roma people living in camps are victims of several violations of the European Convention on Human Rights. The Council of Europe is working for better integration of Roma into mainstream European society and to achieve improved living standards for them.
