Journalist safety
The platform aims to improve the protection of journalists, better address threats and violence against media professionals and foster early warning mechanisms and response capacity within the Council of Europe. It is a public space to encourage the compilation, processing and widespread diffusion of information on threats to media freedom and the safety of journalists in the Council of Europe 47 member States, as guaranteed by Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Partner organisations include Reporters Without Borders, the International Federation of Journalists, the European Federation of Journalists, the Association of European Journalists, Article 19, the Committee to Protect Journalists and Index on Censorship. The platform will enable Council of Europe bodies and institutions to be alerted in a more systematic way and to take timely and coordinated action when necessary. It will also help the organisation to identify trends and to propose adequate policy responses in the field of media freedom.
