Culture

Our European culture is a product of our rich and diverse history, and is an essential element of who we are, both as citizens of independent nation states, and as Europeans. The Council of Europe sees our common cultural heritage as a way of bringing us closer together as Europeans and of encouraging dialogue and mutual exchange. We are working both to protect cultural heritage and property from being damaged, destroyed or stolen, and to promote it as a precious resource to be enjoyed by all European citizens as part of their common cultural identity.
