Study reveals widespread sexism and violence against women in parliaments
On 23 November 2018 the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) launched a new initiative to counter sexism, harassment, and violence against women in parliaments.
The study was based on conversations with 123 women from 45 European countries. 81 were members of parliament. 42 were members of parliamentary staff.
Researchers found evidence of widespread sexism, abuse and violence against women in parliaments. The aim of the study is to break the silence and taboos in order to tackle the problem.
