10'19" 22 November 2012 Council of Europe Strasbourg

Human rights activist Harry Wu offers his perspective on China’s human rights record and political culture. He discusses the prospects for the development of democracy in China, and reviews past anti-human rights policies of the Chinese government including the organ transplantation of executed prisoners, the one child policy and the use of labour camps.

Wu has first-hand experience of such violations, having spent 19 years in Chinese labour camps, known as Logai. He later became an academic and founded the Logai Foundation in the USA.  He was speaking in this capacity at the World Forum for Democracy in Strasbourg, in 2012. Harry Wu died in April 2016.
