Tolerance for diversity among Europeans
Living Together report on multiculturalism in Europe
In May 2011 the Council of Europe submitted its report on the future of multiculturalism in Europe. Drafted by a group of Wise Persons, the Living Together report proposes seventeen ideas for Europe to use in response to the rise of intolerance and political extremism in Europe.
Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland commissioned the report, with the aim of encouraging political leaders to discuss solutions to the numerous problems facing the successful integration of European citizens of different faiths and cultures. In the aftermath of the terror attacks on Paris and Brussels, the report remains highly relevant as part of the continuing debate on how to forge a common European identity based on shared values and tolerance.
